Margaret Mee, an Explorer and Botanical Artist

In 1952, Margaret Mee, an english lady, moved to Brazil to teach Arts at a british school. She lived in Brazil along 36 years, and became a botanical artist, expert on plants of Amazon.

Even elderly, she challenged the wise and wild Amazon Rain Forest, in order to paint its rare and exotic plants and flowers. About 400 illustrations were painted by Margaret.

In 1988, at the age of 79, she died at a car crash in England. A tragic irony if we take in account she took huge risks and survived several and long expeditions in the Amazon jungle.

The valuable collection of original paintings dropped by Margaret to all lovers of Arts, Nature and Science may be appreciated at the Royal Botanic Gardens, the KEW Museum, in London.
