Monalisa was stolen

The first time I saw Mona Lisa, somehow I got a bit disappointed, despite of my admiration for Leonardo da Vinci, concerning his creations and inventions. It is a small portrait.

At that time, the painting was still exposed in Louvre in a way we could look at her, face to face, and we could easily have that sensation of her eyes following us while we move in front of her, such the result of painting techniques, and the Sfumato, developed by Da Vinci. Today, the painting is very apart, protected by a hard case.

Mona Lisa is surrounded by curious facts, beyond the mystery regarding her identity, no one knows who she was actually.

Besides painter, Da Vinci was an architect, inventor, studied Anathomy and also wrote poems.

There are rumors concerning a love affair between him and Francis I, king of France. Some of Da Vinci's paintings were inheritted by the king after his death. Mona Lisa was among them, but it had never been seen as a special painting. At the era of Napoleon, Mona Lisa decorated his apartment in Louvre.

The fact that actually made Mona Lisa special took place in 1911, when it mysteriously disappeared from Louvre, being recovered in Italy two years later. An italian, who was caught trying to negotiate its sale, had joined the team of wall painters in charge for the painting of Louvre's rooms at the occasion of its disappearance. Mona Lisa was back home, Louvre, and since then became a very popular painting in the world, the very first choice of the people who visit Louvre.
